Queenstown/Lake Burbury > Lake St Clair
It’s a little over an hour’s drive along the Lyell Highway to Lake St Clair, but you can easily stretch it into a full day, as this World Heritage-listed section of wilderness is stitched with many great walking trails. Be sure to call into Nelson Falls, one of Tasmania’s loveliest waterfalls. Stop at the Frenchmans Cap trail, where it’s just a few minutes’ walk to the Franklin River. Lake St Clair offers a range of accommodation options, from national park camping to the serene luxury of a room atop the water at Pumphouse Point.
