Why Unforgettable Happens Here!

Out & About with Kids - - FRONT PAGE - Christine Kane

Once upon a time … a little girl travelled from Australia with her family to a whole bunch of exotic and unfamiliar destinations around the world. Still too young to be well acquainted with geography, the journey was mostly memorable for its wide-eyed moments of discovery and disorienting multiple time zones. Until one day, at the end of this giddy family odyssey, she arrived at a place she had heard of, and had already dreamed of visiting. Gasping and gawping in breathless surprise, wonder and anticipation, she took her first few steps into the Happiest Place on Earth …

My wonderful fairytale at Disneyland California, and that of millions of other kids and grown-ups, is all thanks to Walt Disney creating a truly fantastic and unique magical destination for families to experience together. Disneyland first sprang into our collective imaginations when the gates opened in California in 1955 - and that news quickly travelled to Australia. For the next 60 years, excited Aussie kids like me have perpetually placed a trip to Disneyland on the top of their ‘one day’ list and, whether you make it there as a child, or have to wait until you’re all grown up, the sheer joy of that dream-cometrue is magic.

The unmatchable appeal of destination Disneyland for all ages lies in the incredible real world manifestation of Walt Disney’s imagination. Think about it. What a phenomenal achievement to create a place so alluring, that the desire to visit begins in childhood and is not diminished by the passing of time.

Once upon a time … getting to Disneyland, USA might have seemed out of reach for many Aussie families but today we have such a wide choice of affordable, regular, direct flights from Australia to Los Angeles, and fantastic family package deals on offer, the dream is more attainable than it has ever been.

Constantly evolving, the original Disneyland California dream is now an immersive and unbelievable Disneyland Resort experience across two awesome Parks: Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park, three beautiful hotel properties and the exciting entertainment, dining and retail fun of the Downtown Disney District, all set on a sprawling 200 ha.

If you can believe it (and you can), a holiday at Disneyland Resort is incomparable. It’s the stuff of Once Upon A Time, and fairytales and happiness and memories. Whether you are 8 months, 8 years, 18, 48 or 80 … once you step into this world it is impossible to deny that magic happens here,

family happens here, the unforgettable happens here – it’s a powerful thing.

Once upon a time … a family arrived at Disneyland Resort. They had a choice of three spectacular Disney hotels - the newly-renovated iconic Disneyland Hotel, the colourful ‘day at the beach’-themed Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel or the luxury of Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. They indulged in unique guest experiences including Character Dining, sharing a yummy meal and plenty of fun with their favourite Disney friends.

They explored all of the admission-free entertainment, dining and shopping of the highenergy Downtown Disney District right on their doorstep, with snack stops and restaurants, boutiques, art, gifts and entertainment and the World of Disney, one of the biggest Disney shopping experiences on earth!

The family climbed aboard the Disneyland Monorail in the Downtown Disney District, taking in jaw-dropping views of the Parks, from above and beyond, passing through Fantasyland and Tomorrowland in Disneyland Park and Condor Flats, Buena Vista Street and Hollywood Land in Disney California Adventure Park.

And together - parents, children, grandchildren, grandparents, friends, cousins, aunts and uncles - they walked through the magical Entrance to Disneyland Park.

… and … oh! Where to start? Main Street, U.S.A., Adventureland, Frontierland, New Orleans Square, Critter Country, Fantasyland, Mickey’s Toontown or Tomorrowland? Within, they discovered over 60 Disneyland attractions whose names they knew so well - Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy, Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, “it’s a small world,” Matterhorn Bobsleds, Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage and Indiana Jones Adventure.

Is that Elsa from ‘Frozen’ waving and smiling their way? Oh, and here comes Mickey to shake hands and pose for a selfie!

And then the excitement, right across the road, of Disney California Adventure Park, travelling through Hollywood Land, “a bug’s land,” Pacific Wharf, Paradise Pier, Grizzly Peak, Condor Flats and the spectacular 12-acre Cars Land, inspired by the Radiator Springs setting of the Disney Pixar movie “Cars.”

Soarin’ Over California – they experienced a breathtaking virtual hang-gliding tour over some of the state’s most amazing landmarks and scenic wonders, before entering the 4D world of gameplay that is Toy Story Mania!, and thrilling to the twists and turns of the

California Screamin’ roller coaster. It was impossible to fit in everything in one day. But they knew that another tomorrow was just a sweet dream away.

They shared their endless happy snaps, because who could miss a moment? They all talked at once, and excitedly, about their favourite attractions, and the best game plan for exploring more of the Parks the next day. Happy, they retired to their Disney-themed room, and drifted off to sleep on a trail of Disneyland fairy dust …

So, if you are still wishing on a star why not make this fairytale real, and grab a slice of the unforgettable Disneyland Resort, for you, and your family - because we all know dreams really can come true … and allow a minimum of 3-5 days at Disneyland Resort to make sure you don’t miss a thing!
