Netballers ready for round one

IT will be an exciting year of netball for the Beechworth Bushrangers.

New faces, returning players and a strong preseason have the ‘Bushies’ firing ahead of their round one match up against Chiltern.

Carina Tenance will again head up the A grade and under 18 teams in 2018, while Kristy Phibbs and Amy Carey will look after B grade and Holly Stiffe will take care of the C grade.

Sarah Robinson will look after the under 15s, Emma Dowdle the under 13s and Anita Knoth will coach the under 11s.

Tenance is into her second season at the helm and she is upbeat with what the Bushrangers can produce in 2018.

“We have got a few numbers back and numbers have been strong at each of our training sessions,” Tenance said.

“The players that are returning are experienced and that is exciting for the group.

“We want to have a settled and consistent side in A grade this year and hopefully we can be rid of all the injuries that we had last year.”

The Bushrangers mean business in 2018, completing a tough five-week block of training pre-Christmas before holding trials in January.

Beechworth made the finals in 2016, making a preliminary final, but fell away harshly in 2017 not winning a game, with the difficult year behind them and a lot of younger players coming through the ranks Bushrangers netball is set to be an exciting brand in 2018.

The Bushrangers host Chiltern in round one with 13 and under netball kicking off at 9am.
