COMMUNITY radio station Indigo FM has a new home after moving into the Bunya Centre next door to the Beechworth Town Hall.

The repurposed former maternal and child welfare centre will provides a comfortable, central and permanent base for the volunteerrun radio station that broadcasts from Beechworth on 88 FM.

It also be picked up in Yackandandah, also on 88FM, Chiltern on 87.6 FM, and will soon be available in Tangambalanga on 88FM.

Radio president Scott Landells said the station was grateful to have had the support of Beechworth Secondary College over the last few years for broadcasting but finding our permanent home was important.

“It is very timely that we have secured a two- year lease with Indigo Shire Council,” he said.

“We are in partnership with Beechworth Urban Landcare and Sustainability ( BULS) who will be holding meetings and workshops here and the building is also available for other community groups to use.

Mr Landells said radio station provides quality radio programing with local content and podcasts, and supports non- profit organisations, trade and local tourism events within the Indigo Shire.

He said the station encouraged people to take up the opportunity to learn more about becoming radio presenters.

“Training is provided with our radio equipment and is included in your membership,” he said.

“Whatever your passion, music, arts, crafts, wine, current affairs, books, films, reviews, local events or productions then you may like to take advantage of this community facility and become a presenter.”

Indigo FM will hold an open day at the Bunya Centre on Saturday, October 27 from 10am to 2pm with interested people free to head along and find out about local broadcasting or to just have a chat.

The station is on air 24 hours a day seven days a week with program guides available at IndigoFMradio. com
