Chiltern water leak still a work in progress

Ovens & Murray Advertiser - - NEWS -

THE source of the water leak at Martins Lane continues to be a challenge, and difficult to pinpoint without costly and invasive work. Following on from the initial assessment and trials to fix the issue, we am currently pro-gressing three potential sources for the water issue in Martins Lane and Conness Street. These are; Fire service pipe line from North East Water main near pub to IGA supermarket may be leaking. We are looking to carry out testing of this line for possible leakage. Groundwater from aquifer leaking to the stn-face; the water table may be high and travelling to the surface or into underground services. We will be looking to engage a consultant to carry out testing of aquifer and provide re-port of existing conditions and characteristics. This may require installation of investiga-tion bores for monitoring. Old Chiltern water supply pipe line may be leaking; the old Chiltern water supply line was capped off by North East Water (NEW) how-ever is still charged and services a number of properties. We will be working with NEW to obtain information on this old system to further de-termine if it may be leaking. This may also require testing of the line if it is in the vicinity of Martins Lane and Con-ness Street.
