Christ Church Beechworth 2021 concert series launched

- By MARK STEPHENS

LAST Saturday afternoon, expert pianist Sandra Williams and brilliant soprano Colleen Arnott received a standing ovation from the large audience at Christ Church Beechworth for their extraordinary musical talents.

Their ‘Welcome to the Grand Piano Show’ included jazz items such as Summertime and Autumn Leaves, and the beautiful classical works, Traumerei and La Cathedrale Engloutie.

Saturday’s concert was the first of the 2021 series planned by Dr Kate Sutherland at Christ Church, and over the coming months, commencing in June, recitals will offer diverse repertoires from performers and companies including the Morning Peninsular Chamber Orchestra, Opera Scholars Australia, renowned harpsichordist and pianist, Peter Hagen (performing with cellist, Sam Goble and oboist, Andrew Angus), and local viola de gamba player, John Weretka.

Details of the concerts will be released shortly on the Christ Church’s Ford Street noticeboard and website (https://www.beechworthanglican.org. au), via Facebook and distributed to selected locations.

All funds raised by the concerts will be used to maintain Christ Church’s historic organ and the ‘larger-than-baby’ grand piano.
