BEREFT OF TRUCK PARKING

Owner Driver - - OWNER // DRIVER -

According to the Mackay Mercury, the Queensland town of Calen is missing out on business from truck traffic. Calen is on the Bruce Highway around 40 minutes north of Mackay, and residents say the lack of a dedicated truck stopping lane means northbound truckies have nowhere to pull over.

Sure, there are the illegal options, such as parking in front of Australia Post or retail outlets.

Normally, parking outside the cop shop would be a case of “would you like a fine with that burger?”. However, the local sergeant says trucks can park “as long as they’re not impeding access to and from residences”.

In fact, the sergeant is encouraging truck drivers to pull up there.

Meanwhile, most truck drivers are unwilling to chance their hand, preferring to continue on to Proserpine.

No problem for southbound drivers though, with a dedicated truck lane handily placed.
