An interesting email was seen last month. An operator of a B-double outbound at Ipswich Road, Gailes, near Brisbane received the email showing the A-tri came in at better than 23 tonnes. All other parameters; gross included, were well under limits.
A discussion with a Department of Transport and Main Roads officer maintained that the accuracy of such equipment does not allow prosecution. He advised that it has been in place at numerous sites for many years and is used to give an indication as to where the department should focus attention.
However, either the sender of the email is bluffing or my informant is not as up to date as I would hope. I suspect the latter and I am definitely not casting doubt
on the integrity of my informant. Watch this space and in the meantime be aware.
