Online gaming may feel real-time, but it’s actually an illusion. In reality, you’re playing with and against the recenthistory ghosts of other players. Each input command is timestamped and accepted as true on your client machine, in order to keep things fluid. If the timestamped input data is rejected by the server, that’s where the real-time illusion is broken and what your client device previously accepted as true is retroactively rejected.
