BEST ACTION GAME

PCPOWERPLAY - - Game of the Year 2016 -

JAMES O’CONNOR

BAYONETTA

Bit of a cheat here, of course, but how do you go past Bayonetta? Perhaps more to the point, why would you? It remains the pinnacle of its genre. ADAM RORKE

WOLFENSTEIN II: THE NEW COLOSSUS

Like any other game even came close to beating this one for best action game. Shoot them Nazi’s dead! BOOM! BANG! KABOOM! DANIEL WILKS

NIER AUTOMATA

The way the camera shifts and changes the gameplay in Nier Automata is genius, and it does all styles of gameplay well. Camera moves to the side and suddenly you’re in a tight, well designed action/platformer, it moves overhead and you’re in a wellpaced twinstick shooter. Behind the shoulder and it’s hack and slash, but sometimes it’s also bullethell. Amazing. KOSTA ANDREADIS

ASSASSIN’S CREED: ORIGINS

The year off was a wise move. Assassin’s Creed Origins reinvigorates the franchise and reiterates its place in the landscape as one of the most interesting open world action titles in a historical setting. DAVID WILDGOOSE

HOB

It’s not really an action game. Hob’s more an explorationfocused action/adventure with some neat environmental puzzles and a light upgrade system. It’s so good though that I had to find a category for it.
