GHOUL BRITANNIA: LAND OF HOPE AND GOREY

What’s up with adventure games and puns? Ghoul Britannia: Land of Hope and Gorey? Seriously? Lucky I’m a sucker for this genre. I’d play literally anything new. Even luckier, I love the setting. I wake up in someone else’s house. The owner’s dirty underwear is still in the washing basket. Ew. I’m trying to fix a generator in Section 5, while inexplicable ‘ELUs’ fidget, just beyond a hastily erected, electric fence. There are militia everywhere, I’ve already stripped all the cars for parts and I really need a spark plug before nightfall. There’s an immense amount of pressure and discomfort to this.
The player often needs to know information before they can notice solutions. I do like this in adventure games because it tends to encourage multiple engagements with all aspects of the surrounding environment. Ghoul Britannia is a ways from release, but it’s looking good. The other standout point and click adventure from PAX was Henry Mosse and the Wormhole Conspiracy, which has a demo you can play now. Find it at www.mosseadventure.com. When it comes to adventures, more stuff is good stuff, as far as I’m concerned. Keep it coming.
