At Play Fare, I also chatted with the general public about how they loved indie games but didn’t know how to source them. If I didn’t know Pewka from local events and showing Cursedom, I wouldn’t have learned about Gaullie’s Peace. Although not technically showing at the event, this is exactly the kind of evocative experience I hope people are able to find. It is the first third of a seemingly simple Bitsy game, yet I feel like I’ve already undertaken an incredible adventure. I found a journal inside of an old mountain/friend, I got lost at sea, I inhaled pollen and died.

The tiny art is endlessly intriguing and open to interpretation. Where am I now? A temple, an underground railroad, a lava cave. Is that a rock? Can I traverse it? Can I walk into the sky? I entirely forgot that I was looking for my spouse’s extract. Their what? I’m honestly not sure whether I hope to find out in future chapters. I feel as if I already engaged with this game exactly as I wanted to; as the little girl who couldn’t stop wandering around her own Adventure Construction Set creations.
