THE OLED FUTURE IS NOW

SAY HELLO TO THIS INCREDIBLE GAMING MONITOR, COMBINING ASUS ROG EXPERTISE WITH A NEXT GENERATION QD-OLED PANEL.

-

Rarely has a new technology been as hotly anticipated in the gaming world as the latest QD-OLED displays. OLED tech has been available for quite some time now, and so it would be easy to underestimate how big an impact these 3rd gen QD-OLED panels will have – especially for gaming.

OLEDs screens are much loved by all, though are especially coveted by gamers for their amazingly low response times, and ability to handle high refresh rates, yet still give vibrant colours and deep blacks. But even with major improvements over the past few years, OLED screens have still been saddled with key limitations, such as burn in, lower pixel densities, and lack the text rendering sharpness needed for non gaming use.

EVERYTHING, ALL IN ONE

Now thanks to Asus, the game has changed. The ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM takes a cutting edge QD-OLED panel from Samsung, paired with loads of gamer-focused features and a cyberpunk inspired aesthetic. The result is stunning, and it’s one of the first OLED gaming screens that avoids the downsides of previous generations. Pixel density is up, and we are finally getting a 4K, 3840 x 2160 resolution OLED in a highly practical 32in form factor, and one that also offers the benefits of high refresh rates and extremely low pixel response times.

Just as importantly, the PG32UCDM panel features a much more refined subpixel structure that gives the sharpness and text rendering needed for a monitor that isn’t just for gaming.

The new QD-OLED tech combined with upgraded protection features mean the screen is so much more resistant to image retention that Asus backs it with a three year warranty that includes coverage for burn-in, giving you the confidence to game on.

RECAP: QD-OLED 101

You might be wondering, what does the QD in QD-OLED stand for again? Rather than the LCD colour filters over subpixels used in normal OLEDs, QD-OLEDs use Quantum Dots over blue OLED subpixels. The quantum dots efficiently absorb the blue light, and remit it as red or green. Each QD-OLED pixel has red, green and blue subpixels clustered together to create different colours. The third gen panels use advanced manufacturing techniques to squeeze the near 8.3 million pixels closer together than ever before, with a new subpixel layout.

ASUS ROG SWIFT OLED PG32UCDM

Next gen QD-OLED and a 4K resolution in a 32in frame is great and all, but what about the rest of the spec? The panel is 31.5in viewable (699.48 x 394.73 mm), with a 16:9 aspect ratio and an anti-reflection surface. Pixel pitch is a tight 0.182mm, panel brightness is up to 450cd/

m2, (L) with a 1,500,000:1 contrast ratio, VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400, Dolby Vision*, HDR10 support and 178°/ 178° view angles. The screen can display true 10 bit colour, and covers a top notch 99% of the DCI-P3 colour space with an impressive colour accuracy of Delta E < 2. And of course for buttery smooth gaming you get the high end 240Hz refresh rate (G-sync Compatible and FreeSync Premium Pro), ELMB and that gloriously low 0.03ms (GTG) pixel response time.

The PG32UCDM is not just about the panel, and Asus has included 2x HDMI v2.1 inputs, DisplayPort 1.4 (with Display Stream Compression), and USB-C that does both DisplayPort and up to 90W power output. The monitor also has a USB hub (3x USB

3.2 Gen 2 type A ports), a 3.5mm audio jack and SPDIF out. For added utility, the monitor has a built-in KVM and hotkey activated PIP mode.

ASUS OLED CARE

The Asus boffins have put a lot of work into the internals and software of the PG32UCDM, to make sure the QD-OLED panel has a long and fruitful life well beyond the 3 years of burn-in warranty. OLEDs suffer at higher temperatures, so the monitor includes advancements such as a high thermal conductivity graphene film, custom heatsinks and extra vents to keep every pixel cool no matter how long your gaming session lasts.

The Asus DisplayWidget software includes a range of OLED care measures to help get the best out of the panel. For example, it includes an OLED optimised dimming screen saver mode, as well as pixel shifting, which adjusts the displayed image very slightly to make sure all pixels are used evenly. The software also detects any static images, such as on-screen logos, and dims them slightly to reduce any image retention effects. And finally, the screen has pixel cleaning mode with reminder, that when activated, automatically checks and recalibrates the screen.

ADVANCED SOFTWARE FEATURESET

Some of the best features of the PG32UCDM are enabled by the software. Asus DisplayWidget Software and monitor OSD do a lot more than just protect the OLED panel. In fact, you don’t even need to access the OSD, as you can use the software to directly adjust the monitor settings on screen using your mouse.

Leveraging the OLEDs abilities, the monitor can dynamically adjust overall brightness to reduce eye strain in marathon gaming (or work) sessions. You can even give a targeted window its own level of brightness. For the esport gamers, the PG32UCDM can emulate esports monitor sizes, letting you practise directly on the equivalent to a 24.5in screen, or 27in screen. You also get a range of other in-game enhancements, such as Dynamic Shadow Boost, which analyses the image in real time and makes dark shadowy areas brighter so enemies are more easily spotted.

The monitor can also dynamically adjust your crosshair colour as it moves. There are also seven GameVisual modes, which automatically optimise your visual settings for specific game styles. Plus a suite of GamePlus enhancements, which were developed with pro gamers, such as on screen timers (great for RTS), FPS counter, sniper zoom mode, and a display alignment overlay to help line up multiple screens. No matter your gaming style, or even if you spend most of your time using a monitor for other tasks, the Asus ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM is an incredible gaming screen that will make you love your gaming even more.
