Vauxhall versus Ford Lakeside Meet
We join the Vauxhall crew at a proper old school meet in Essex…
AVauxhall versus Ford meet may sound like a recipe for disaster, as let’s face it, there’s no love lost between the two camps. But when it’s a well-organized event and all for charity, well even the biggest rivalries can be set aside – for one night at least!
Things kicked off with a Vauxhall only pre-meet at Concept Motors. As I arrived, there were Griffins as far as the eye could see and Richard Saunders and the Concept team had even laid on a barbeque – nice work. There was just time for a bit of banter and a few pics, before a procession of over 60 cars headed on to the motorway.
The plan was to fill the road with Vauxhalls, so I nipped off and parked up in a layby ready to grab the pics. I have to say it was an impressive sight watching three lanes of Vauxhalls cruise by, especially with the odd misguided Ford looking totally lost within the melee! From here we headed over to the retail park near Lakeside, where we were greeted by even more Vauxhalls. Apparently there were some Fords there too, but I can’t say I was paying any attention to them!
Although the meet was huge, the atmosphere was relaxed and there was plenty of good natured banter between the two sets of car fans. Byron and the rest of the team that organized it had made sure the local police were on side and the venue was well lit and well catered for with a KFC on site.
With a raffle boasting over £2,000 of prizes, and all proceeds going to a worthy charity ( hrtrust.org), it made for a cracking meet. Big thanks to Byron Willets, Concept Motors and the VXROnline crew for inviting us to a top night.
