Gen-F Maloo R8s were offered with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard and a six-speed automatic as a cost option. Reaching the 60mph mark from a standing start is registered in a time of 4.5 seconds for both gearboxes when fitted to the R8 LSA. Launch control is a feature of the manual transmission.
“The first thing any Maloo owner should do is change the oil in the gearbox and limited-slip differential,” warns Marc. “These utes are driven hard, so don’t be alarmed if you spot small metal particles in used differential oil. Simply replace the fluid and you’ll be amazed at how well your new R8 performs thereafter.”
Due to them being based on the same basic design, all LS series engines feature interchangeable parts. A twin-plate LS9 clutch, for example, will happily mate to an LSA. Uprated flywheels, gear sets, differentials and other trick transmission parts are available from a variety of manufacturers and retailers, including MWP.
