learn how to get the painterly look, create trendy collages and fun text effects in seconds
01 Cool Collages
Click Guided in the editing modes at the top, then click the ‘Fun Edits’ tab and choose ‘Effects Collage’. Work your way down the steps on the right, first by choosing a layout and number of boxes, and then experiment with the effects presets.
02 from Photo to Painting
Open another image and choose Fun Effects> Painterly. Dab over the image with the Brush to create the effect, varying the angle, style and opacity as you go (use the ] and [ keys to resize). Next, choose a texture for the background, then save it.
03 Create a frame
The Frame Creator is slightly misleading. It doesn’t create a frame as such, it just cuts out the middle part of one you’ve made already (see ‘Make your own frames’, right) and then saves it. Once done, head to Expert mode and use the frame with any image.
04 turn Photos into words
Go to ‘Photo Text’ under ‘Fun Effects’ in Guided mode. Begin by typing a word or two, using the font settings to size and style it. Hit the tick, then choose a background colour and make the letters stand out with a style effect.
05 Panning blur effects
This one mimics the effects of panning by motion blurring the background. Go to Fun Edits>speed Pan. Select the subject, including any gaps where the background shows through, then apply the blur and use the refine tools to perfect the edges.
06 turn that frown upside down!
Open a portrait image. Switch to ‘Expert’ mode then go to Enhance>adjust Facial Features. The command automatically detects faces and lets you tweak the features with the sliders on the right. Experiment with the Mouth sliders to make a smile.
