Welcome

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside, oh I do like to be beside the sea... who doesn’t love the salty sea air, the crash of the waves and wide-open coastline views? This issue, brilliant landscape photographer and Canon pro, David Clapp, took our young Apprentice, Jess, around some great photos spots on the north Devonshire coast. She was a real natural and, thanks to David’s tuition, learned to take some proper Hot Shots from Clovelly’s colourful harbour to the rugged rocks on the coast (from page 8). Even better, we liked Jess’s Shot of the Day so much, we’ve used it as this month’s cover image!

Also inside this cracking new issue, we bring you 50 great Canon tips to help you master your Canon DSLR’S setting, improve your photographic techniques, plus some key image-editing tips (page 28).

In Canon Skills (starting on page 45) this month we have some special portrait photo projects, with a cool technique from me on how to use ND filters and flash for dark and moody portraits that both blur and darken background. Learn how to use streetlights in your local city for after-dark portraits, and panoramic portrait techniques, plus new tutorials for boosting images in Photoshop Elements, CC and Lightroom.

In Canon School (from page 81), we demystify the histogram graph to help capture better exposures, plus Canon DPP and EOS Utility tutorials. While in our Gear section (from page 97), we test Canon’s new TS-E macro lenses, Sigma’s 14-24mm lens, and eight of the best decent tripods for around £200. Finally don’t miss our great subscriptions offer with a free £85 Manfrotto backpack, details below…
