Have ‘fill’ light available

Location portraits come into their own when there is some beautiful backlight to give separation and mood. However, this does leave your subject’s face in shade, so use a reflector or an on-camera flash (try high-speed sync flash mode due to fast shutter speeds needed with wide apertures outside).
