Life on the streets

-

Over the recent week and in various photo magazines, I have read articles regarding street photography. I’m appalled responsible magazines would encourage us to ‘shoot covertly’, for example, from the hip. Not only is this sneaky, but you are heading for a certain tug from the law. I would be twice as angry with the photographer, as opposed to them asking if they could take my photo.

I have managed lots of candid street images by bringing the camera up to my eye and standing out in the open. If someone objects to his or her photo being taken I delete it straight away, no problem.

Do not sneak around like you are doing something wrong, be proud and enjoy your photography. Brian Pringle, Newcastle upon Tyne

You raise an interesting point here, Brian. Legally in the UK, you don’t need people’s permission to take their photo in a public place, as long as you’re not selling the images commercially and haven’t harassed them in the process.
