Life-saving camera hacks
Tried and tested photography cheats that have saved the day on many a shoot
01 makeshift lens Hood
You’re out shooting on a sunny day and you’ve forgotten, broken or lost your lens hood. No problem – just take the cardboard sleeve from a coffee cup and attach it to your lens. Then wonder why official lens hoods are £50 from Canon.
02 diy prisms and Filters
The great thing about wearing glasses is that you always have a handy prism that enables you to refract light and create distortion effects. You can do the same thing with sunglasses to create colour casts or botch a cheap ND filter.
03 Free image stabilisation
Don’t have an expensive lens with posh stabilization? Struggling to avoid that pesky camera shake in poor lighting conditions? Don’t worry, just anchor your neck and pull your camera strap taught while taking your shots.
