Set date, time and copyright info
our quick setup guide shows you how to personalize some of your Canon’s key menu settings
In last month’s look at setting up your Canon EOS DSLR, we demonstrated how to perform physical tasks, such as attaching the strap, and inserting a memory card and fully charged battery. It’s also worth personalizing your Canon so that your image-producing workflow will be more efficient.
Most image editing apps, such as Canon’s Digital Professional 4, help you find particular photographs by displaying them according to when they were captured. If the date and time are set incorrectly then recent photographs might actually appear at the very bottom of the search list rather than in their correct chronological location. We’ll show you how to adjust the camera’s menu settings so that the correct date and time is stamped on every photograph as soon as it’s been captured.
Once you’ve shared a photograph it might end up being copied multiple times. This could mean that the photo is used in unauthorized ways. By spending a few minutes setting up the camera’s author and copyright information fields you can stamp your ownership on each photograph automatically, as it is captured in-camera. This saves you the hassle of having to add copyright details in postproduction software. 01 MENU BUTTON After tapping this button various settings can be viewed on the LCD (and adjusted if you have a touch-screen model, such as the EOS 760D). 02 QUICK CONTROL DIAL Rotate this dial to scroll through various menus or tap the appropriate edge to move up, down, left or right. Press Set to enter a command. 03 ADJUST VIEWFINDER FOCUS To see a sharper display in the viewfinder rotate the dioptric knob clockwise or anti-clockwise and personalize it for your eyesight. 04 COPYRIGHT DETAILS You can enter your camera’s owner information and copyright details via the Settings menu.
