the histogram (and the image) you see on the back of the camera is always based on a JPEG version of the shot – even if you shoot Raw. Raw files hold more colour and tonal informatio­n than JPEGS, so, even if the histogram shows that the shot is overexpose­d or underexpos­ed, the wider dynamic range of Raw files mean that you can rescue shots that you might otherwise have deleted.
