Ultra slow

In bright conditions, you may not be able to use a shutter speed slow enough to achieve long exposure effects. In this case, fit a strong Neutral Density (ND) filter to the front of the lens. Support the camera on a tripod and cover the viewfinder to prevent stray light from affecting the exposure. Most EOS DLSRS come with a rubber eyepiece cover that attaches to the camera strap to help with this.
