When to prioritize aperture

-

THE Time to prioritize aperture, above the other two settings, is when depth of field is the prime concern. Depth of field is the amount of front to back sharpness there is in a shot. Sometimes you’ll want lots, like when you want to pull as much as possible of a scenic view into sharp focus, or you want to record details in a macro subject. Other times you’ll want to use a narrow strip in order to make a subject stand out from the foreground and background – as is often preferable for portraits and wildlife shots.
