School tip Exposure level increments

Choose the less fine option for faster adjustments

-

By default, your camera uses 1/3 stop increments for aperture, shutter speed, ISO and exposure comp. This gives you more precise control, but it can take a bit longer to get through the settings when you’re trying to balance exposures. But if you delve into the Custom Functions menu, you’ll find an option that lets you switch the exposure level increments to 1/2 stops instead. Advanced EOS cameras allow you to change the ISO increments to full stops too. This is maybe more useful, as 1/3-stop or 1/2-stop control over the sensitivity can be too subtle. But, being able to shift the ISO by a stop of two with a click of the control dial may make the difference between getting a sharp (grainy) shot and a blurred mess.
