They’re not just for robbing banks – stockings are great for photography, too!

01 NO STOCKINGS

Here’s our non-netted natural light image for reference, shot at f/1.8, 1/125 sec at ISO320. It’s an evenly exposed image, and the fairy lights in the background are producing well-defined ‘bokeh balls’, but could we add more to this shot?

02 LIGHT STOCKINGS

Shot with the same settings, we’ve now added a pair of pale Fogal tights to the lens. As you can see, it’s primarily the shadows and the midtones that are diffused, with some slight halations appearing around the lights.

03 DARK STOCKING

With the same settings once again, this time we’ve netted the lens with a pair of dark tights. Now you’ll see that it’s primarily the highlights that are affected this time, and we’re starting to see a little bit of starbursting as well.
