Add supplemental light to create stunning movie star-style portraits

Introduce lighting and your netting can produce dreamy Hollywood-style portraits. Netted lenses lose between a third to half a stop of light, so you’ll need to overexpose your image. On the left are our starter shots – the first uses only ambient light, the second is lit by a speedlight at 1/16 power.

The shots on the right are taken with pale and black tights respectively. The pale tights diffuse the light to give a faded ethereal look, while we had to increase the power to 1/8 for the black tights as they soaked up so much light, but produced a much more contrasty look.
