Healthcare funding sorely needed

Pilbara News - - OPINION - Bernadette Henshaw Wickham

I would suggest that the council put up some money with the Government to fund more health staff.

I had an aneurysm in December. I was transferred from Wickham to Roebourne Hospital to Nickol Bay.

At 5.15pm the Nickol Bay doctor told my partner I wouldn’t be having an MRI scan until the following day.

My partner disputed this, to no avail.

I had my MRI the next day, a teleconference with a Perth neurologist ensued and Nickol Bay was told to put me on a plane urgently. Thank you to the RFDS, ambos and Roebourne Hospital staff.

I hope the council choose wisely but more essential services staff are needed more than vacant hotel rooms. I was lucky and would be deeply saddened if a similar thing happened to someone in the area without the proper care they needed due to a focus on tourism.
