The undefeated Wickham Wolves league team mauled Karratha Kats 16.13 (109) to 4.9 (33) in their round 7 meeting on Friday night.

Kats trailed from the start in the match on Wickham Oval, going to the first quarter break down 0.4 (4) to the Wolves’ 3.2 (20), and never really managed to take off from there. Their best performance was in the second quarter when they scored two goals.

Meanwhile, Wolves swooped on the opportunity for another big win in the wake of their round six thumping of the Dampier Sharks and kicked away to a 76-point win by the end of the game. Jeremy Regan and Braden Dhu were the winning side’s top scorers.

After round 7 the Wolves league side remains undefeated on top of the ladder, while Kats are sitting in third position, only trailing South Hedland Swans on percentage. However, it was the Kats that reigned supreme in the night’s reserves match, where the reserves ladder leaders took down the Wolves 13.10 (88) to 2.5 (17).

Both teams started slow, but while the Kats hit their straps after the first quarter the Wolves stalled.

Karratha kicked another three majors in the second term to be up 4.5 (29) to 1.2 (8) by half-time and sustained the momentum for the rest of the game, capping it off with a strong final quarter in which they slotted seven goals.

Dylan Hansen and Shaun Derschow were the Kats’ best goal kickers, scoring four each.
