Rio to expand Paraburdoo operations
Pilbara mining giant Rio Tinto has applied to the Environmental Protection Authority for approval to expand its Greater Paraburdoo Iron Ore Hub.
According to the referral, made last month, the company is proposing to expand operations at its Paraburdoo and Eastern Range sites, about 6km south of the Paraburdoo townsite.
The project would include developing mine pits and associated infrastructure at the company’s Paraburdoo, Eastern Range and Western Range operations. A Rio spokeswoman confirmed the project’s progression.
“The development of additional ore sources is required to sustain production capacity from Rio Tinto’s Greater Paraburdoo operations,” she said. The public comment period has closed.
