Close but no cigar in State final

Karratha just missed out on a place in the finals after claiming two wins from four games in the Under-17 Men’s Third Division at the Smarter than Smoking Basketball WA State Championships at the weekend.

The team travelled down for two days of action at the Bendat Basketball Centre and gave it their all, finishing just one win outside the top two in Pool A.

Karratha’s weekend started poorly when they lost 44-29 to the East Perth Eagles on Saturday morning.

But the Cyclones improved later that day to defeat the Lakeside Lightning White team 28-23, with Jason Loveday scoring a game-high 14 points.

Karratha then finished the first day with a convincing 3223 win over the Stirling Senators, with Loveday scoring 13 points and Jedd White hitting 10.

But a heartbreaking 37-28 loss to the Joondalup Wolves on Sunday morning cost them a spot in the final, sending them home early.
