Shark at­tacks surfer

PYRAMIDS Beach was closed af­ter a shark at­tack on Sun­day morn­ing.

Al­bany body­boarder Noah Sym­mans was sit­ting on his board with his legs in the wa­ter when po­lice said some­thing grabbed Mr Sym­mans’ leg.

He kicked out and broke free. He sus­tained four punc­ture wounds to his lower calf.

Surf Life Sav­ing WA op­er­a­tion su­per­vi­sor Jake Webb said Mr Sym­mans man­aged to get him­self to rocks.

Mr Webb said a friend who had been in the wa­ter with Mr Sym­mans re­ported the at­tack at 8.42am.

Mr Sym­mans was treated at the scene be­fore be­ing taken to the Port Bou­vard Surf Life Sav­ing Club first aid room.

He was then taken by he­li­copter to Royal Perth Hospi­tal.

Mr Sym­mans’ in­juries were not life-threat­en­ing and he was in a sta­ble con­di­tion.
