Mods return as Skyrim goes 4K

-

What a difference a month makes. Last issue we left you with the news that neither Fallout 4 nor Skyrim Special Edition would be receiving the promised mod support on PS4 after Bethesda and Sony failed to agree on the feature’s integration.

Now we’re delighted to confirm that Skyrim Special Edition will indeed support mods on PS4 from day one (which, given that its launch is 28 October, might be in the past if you’ve not picked us up early). It gets better: after PS4 Pro launches two weeks later on 10 Nov, Skyrim will get another major upgrade in the form of native 4K visuals – just like its sister title The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited.

FALL’S GOLD

It sounds like Akatosh heard our prayers last issue and then some, but what about the gods of the Wasteland? Well, worry not: Bethesda hasn’t forgotten about Fallout 4 either. When work on Skyrim is wrapped up, the developer’s turning its attention to the post-apocalyptic RPG to bring mod support to PS4, and performance upgrades to PS4 Pro as well. Bethesda’s stopped short of saying it’ll boast native 4K visuals like Skyrim, instead choosing to announce: “We expect Fallout 4 to take advantage of the PS4 Pro in 4K along with enhanced lighting and graphics features.”

Want to get involved in the creation of mods? Then you’ll need to download the Creation Kit from Bethesda’s official website – bethesda.net – on PC to begin, though be warned that you can’t upload external assets to PS4. Less creative and keen to just sample others’ masterpieces? Get a Bethesda account to try mods out as you play on PS4.

FALLOUT 4 WILL ALSO SUPPORT PS4 MODS AND PRO UPGRADES.
