THIS MONTH ON PS PLUS

- @itsJenSim

Like an autumn leaf falling to the ground, October is nearly over. We’ll always have those free Instant Collection games, however – and this month, they were spookily on point. The Resident Evil series’ origin point? Platinum’s brilliant mecha-brawler?

Two ace PS Vita games? It’s as if the spirit of PS Plus somehow knew our deepest, darkest desires… *shudder*

Just in time for Halloween (and our Resi VII feature over on p54), our PS4s played host to the HD remake of classic survival horror RESIDENT EVIL. Play as S.T.A.R.S. operatives Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine, shooting and puzzling their way through a zombie-infested mansion to hunt for missing colleagues. Tough, terrifying and a true masterpiece. TRANSFORMERS:

DEVASTATION (PS4) was no pushover either (probably because massive robots are really heavy), featuring the voices of actors from the original TV series. The comic book look makes Platinum’s speedy combat style pop; playing as one of five Autobots and battling the Decepticons is a childhood dream made reality.

PS3 landed the only ever-so-slight disappointments this month. Pull off stunts in off-road racer MAD RIDERS to boost ahead in races on over 45 tracks. It wasn’t as polished as the likes of SSX or Burnout. ‘God game’ FROM DUST was unique – reshape earth, water and lava to protect your tribe from natural disasters – but became a tad repetitive. There was no danger of that in

ACTUAL SUNLIGHT (PS Vita), a brief, crushingly dark and incredibly affecting visual novel about one man’s struggle with depression. Perhaps too real a horror? Thank goodness for CODE: REALIZE – GUARDIAN OF REBIRTH, one of PS Vita’s strongest visual novels – where you help a monster girl with a poison touch date cute boys.
