LEGO DIMENSIONS – GHOSTBUSTERS

It’s ladies’ night

- @Scully1888

There have been a number of Level Packs released for Lego Dimensions since it launched last year, but this latest offering based on the recent Ghostbusters reboot is a Story Pack. Rather than featuring a single new level based on the franchise it represents, this new type of beast contains six large levels and a hub world. Essentially, if Traveller’s Tales had decided to release a standalone Lego Ghostbusters Trilogy game in the style of the original Lego Star Wars, this would feel like the Ghostbusters 2016 part. Following the entire story of the movie, the Ghostbusters Story Pack opens with the ladies exploring the Aldridge Mansion in their first paranormal hunt. Over the course of six levels all the film’s major scenes are covered, from the encounter in the New York Subway to the team’s attempt to catch a ghost during a rock concert.

The pack comes with a Lego minifig of Abby, as played by Melissa McCarthy, but she’s accompanied by her fellow Ghostbusters as you play – despite their absent minifigs, you’re able to control them at any point to use their unique abilities: Silver Lego Blowup for Erin, Rope Swing for Jillian and Super Strength for Patty. It’s the first time Dimensions has featured separate characters you don’t need to have sitting on your physical portal.

PROTON PACKED

The six levels are all tied together in the game’s Adventure World, unlocked with the Abby minifig. Though each Lego Dimensions franchise has always had its own freeroaming adventure area, this one’s the first to act as a hub within a story. In between levels you’ll return to the Adventure World and complete a mission or two before being directed to the next stage. Combined, it all enforces the feeling you’re playing a Lego Ghostbusters game, rather than a Lego Dimensions add-on.

This is far and away the most content-heavy add-on to date, and though the voice acting is iffy and one or two levels have some slightly dull parts, as a whole this bodes well for future Story Packs. Next up? Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them.

VERDICT

Easily the most packed of Lego Dimensions’ postrelease content. Six large levels with the classic Lego sense of humour make this great for fans. Chris Scullion
