What do we want from Shadow Of The Tomb Raider?

just one more question… the team debate this month’s burning issue

IAN DEAN EDITOR IT SHOULD EMBRACE BLOOD TIES’ VIRTUAL REALITY FOR A MORE COMPLETE PUZZLE EXPERIENCE.

I’m going to sound like a broken record now but I’d love to see the new Tomb Raider embrace Rise Of The Tomb Raider’s PS VR support. While playing Blood Ties in virtual reality was a novelty, it was a limited experience. It would be fantastic to play in large-scale puzzle rooms – VR spaces to push, pull, and explore. Pitting Lara in an escape room scenario against a ticking clock (collapsing room?) would fit the Tomb Raider universe perfectly. Lara and her PS Move controllers against certain death and a giant room puzzle that proves the ancient Aztecs had too much time on their hands.

MILFORD COPPOCK MANAGING ART EDITOR A NEW TAKE ON BATTLE ROYALE MUST BE IN THE NEW TOMB RAIDER

Never one to back down from a fight, I’m going to demand the new Tomb Raider finally adds multiplayer. Calm down, hear me out: If Naughty Dog can make online work for Uncharted then it’s a must for one of PlayStation’s original actioners. I’d imagine a suitably Tomb Raidery take on competitive play. Shunning headshots and gunplay I’d opt for a mode that mixes Fortnite Battle Royale and artefact scavenging into one mighty multiplayer mode – 100 players scampering around a tomb as it crumbles into smaller rooms, the winner being the player to survive the traps and critters with the most treasure.

JESS KINGHORN STAFF WRITER IS IT TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR MORE OF THE SERIES’ NAMESAKE?

I only recently began playing through the Tomb Raider reboot series, so with the last two games fresh in my mind, and as someone who felt the dissonance of Lara mowing down hordes of enemies in the first game, the answer seems clear: fully realised stealth mechanics with even the option for a ‘no kill’ run. While paradoxically I enjoyed being Lara ‘Army Of One’ Croft in previous games, I’d also appreciate a stronger focus on adventure. The optional tombs of earlier entries were some of my favourite sections of the game, though often woefully brief, and something I’d love to see reappear in Shadow.

MIRIAM MCDONALD OPERATIONS EDITOR I’D LIKE TO SEE A MALE LARA, PERHAPS WITH A WHIP AND A NATTY HAT….

No, no matter how much I ask, I’m not going to get a really good Indiana Jones game, am I? But I’d like to see the Tomb Raider games take a more lighthearted approach, whether it’s through wittier dialogue or entertaining setpieces. Perhaps videogames themselves make physical humour less easy to pull off; it’s easy to laugh at someone else running away from a giant ball of stone or careering through mines in a rickety cart, but less easy to see the funny side when you’re controlling the running or riding. Even so, it’d be great if Lara had more laughs in her life.
