Hard on ’soft

I’ve had it with Ubisoft. When I started to think about it, every Ubisoft game that I’ve got excited about and purchased has always ended up with little niggles and frustrations that really let it down and make it unpleasant to play. The Division, Watch Dogs, Far Cry, Ghost Recon Wildlands, Assassin’s Creed, and so on. I’m not saying Ubisoft don’t make

great games but there is always something that breaks the game and makes it more frustrating than fun to play.

I loved the concept of Watch Dogs but it has those same tedious and game-spoiling niggles that so many Ubisoft games have. Poor AI, terrible driving, and unbalanced and punishing missions that make playing their games more frustrating rather than fun. Having to do the same mission ten times just because the game is completely unbalanced is agonising.

I’m not going near Far Cry 5 or The Division 2 because Far Cry 4 and The Division were tedious and at times mentally painful to play. The same is true with Ghost Recon Wildlands.

I’ll give credit where due though, Rainbow 6 Siege is their saviour. It’s not a perfect game but at least it is not the same

predictable and done-todeath open world game that they keep releasing. Liam Dungate via email Well, Ian’s a massive fan of AC Origins, and all of us are looking forward to Beyond Good & Evil 2, so we’ve clearly got very different tastes! Games companies do often have signature styles, and if one’s way of making games isn’t for you, that’s okay – another dev is probably making exactly the sort of game you are looking for.
