When Sony’s little grey box broke onto shelves it was a massive success, but little did we know just how big a part of gaming history it would become. Now, many years on, PlayStation has become a huge part of our lives. Even people who don’t play loads of games have a PS4 under their TV for the odd jaunt to gaming nirvana. Fittingly, sales of PlayStation hardware worldwide have now broached 500 million, showing what a phenomenon it truly is. To be specific, sales have passed the 525 million mark.
To celebrate shifting all those consoles, Sony has announced a special 2TB “PlayStation 4 Pro 500 Million Limited Edition” that’ll be exclusively produced as part of a run of 50,000 collectible units.
With a dark blue, translucent design, these unique units will have pride of place in the living room of any PlayStation fan.
“I would like to express my deepest gratitude for the continued support from our fans and business partners,” said John Kodera, SIE’s president and CEO. “Without our passionate community, we would not have been able to surpass this remarkable milestone. [The Limited Edition] has been created to represent our appreciation to our loyal fans.”
On top of the PS4 Pro, the bundled DualShock 4 will also be available to purchase separately, alongside the Gold Wireless Headset 500 Million Limited Edition.
