Which game should get the bigbudget fan film treatment?

-

IAN DEAN EDITOR THE POWER OF LOVE AND A GOOD TUNE COULD MAKE HORIZON ZERO DAWN A PERFECT FAN FILM.

I’ve always felt the real heart of Horizon Zero Dawn is found in the many characters you meet on your way to putting a spear in HADES’ shell. Which brings me to Talanah. Let’s have a short film about her struggle to to join the Hunter’s Lodge, and those characters she signed up with. If she happens to fall for a workshop girl making armour for the hunters while taking her trials, then all the better. If she just happens to pay a band to play a pan pipe version of Up Where We Belong as she strides into the armoury, picks up her lover, and carries her to a better life, why not?

JESS KINGHORN STAFF WRITER THE POWER OF FAN WORKS SHOULD NOT BE UNDERESTIMATED; WE NEED THEIR WILLINGNESS TO PUT RIGHT THE WRONGS IN THINGS WE LOVE.

As much as I am willing to die on a hill for it and very much looking forward to the official TV series, I cannot deny Life Is Strange’s various flaws or the power of fan works to redress them. The first season’s tired invocation of the Bury Your Gays trope even as it attempts to tell a story that centres around queer relationships has been a sticking point for many fans and a point of inspiration for fan artists. A fan film that recasts that ending or at least explores it from a different angle may assuage some of this particular Bi’s fury.

OSCAR TAYLOR-KENT GAMES EDITOR I PRAY AT THE CHURCH OF VICAR GRIMES FOR A BLOODBORNE GAME WORTH ITS SALT!

Bloodborne is one universe that’d be incredibly hard to recreate on a smaller budget thanks to its very focused Gothic Lovecraftian aesthetic. Surely noted From Software fan and famous musician Grimes (in that order) would be able to lend enough star power and connections to get something together? She could star in the film herself as a hunter, and even compose the music. She’s already discussed drawing inspiration for some of her music from Dark Souls III, and done some impressive Bloodborne streams. If anyone can lead the hunt, it’s Grimes.

MIRIAM MCDONALD OPERATIONS EDITOR WE’VE GOT THE SOUNDTRACKS; IT’S TIME FOR THE GTA VICE CITY FAN FILM.

I’ve always been fascinated by GTA Vice City. When it launched we had the soundtracks on rotation in the office, and I loved reading guides to it (one day I will get over my fear and actually play it). At the time, no game seemed to have stories to compare. So if some eager fans could hit the charity shops for some proper ’80s clobber, and the weather plays nice and ensures shooting is suitably sun-soaked, it’d be great to see those stories, or other tales from Vice City, come to the big screen. Action, glamour, cool clothes, and an even cooler soundtrack. (Y’know, why leave it to the fans? This should be on Netflix.)
