LAST MONTH ON PS PLUS

- @KoeniginKatze

As the scorching summer roasted on into August, PS Plus offered a selection of stone-cold classics to occupy you as you spent the sweltering evenings sitting by a fan. With a bumper crop this month, things were really heating up in more ways than one.

Top billing went to gangster drama

Mafia III, featuring an open world set in ’60s inner-city America. As returning war veteran Lincoln Clay you explored a new criminal enterprise amid tensions, power vacuums, shootouts, and heists. Speaking of tension, joining Mafia III was Dead By Daylight.

This asymmetric multiplayer experience dropped four players into the oft-tripping shoes of hopeful horror movie survivors. A fifth player lurked in the shadows as a monstrous murderer hoping to pick them all off one by one. This fifth player had their pick of a selection of cinema killers, with more, from Leatherface to Freddy Krueger, available through DLC.

On PS3 there was Bound By Flame, an action RPG where the monsters you faced were internal terrors as well as external, as your main character wrestled with demonic possession. There was also Serious Sam 3: BFE, a first-person throwback that pitted you against hordes of enemies keen to wander into the path of your minigun.

PS Vita made work for idle hands as, in Draw Slasher, your finger was a ninja, slicing through enemies in bold red strokes. Also on offer was Space Hulk, a turn-based tactical strategy game set in the Warhammer 40K universe.

But rounding out August’s line up was a sizzle reel of bonus titles. Alongside PlayLink quiz game Knowledge Is

Power, there was VR chiller Here They Lie. Following the lady in yellow might have looked appealing but she may well have led you to more manageable, chillier climes… six feet under.
