Kingdom Hearts III goes the distance
We’re heading all the way to Olympus with Sora
04Bizarrely enough for a series that’s essentially a massive Disney/ Square Enix crossover RPG, there’s a huge amount of complex lore to Kingdom Hearts. While the latest and long-awaited entry in the series moves the story forward, a lot of care and attention has been paid to upholding the entire Kingdom Hearts legacy.
We took a look at the Olympus world in action during our hands-on gameplay all the way back before E3. It played brilliantly then, but now even more has been revealed about Hercules’ world. Herc himself gets involved in plenty of the action, and Zeus, Pegasus, Phil, Hades, Meg, and the Titans all put in appearances.
The movie Hercules has been a big part of the Kingdom Hearts games from the beginning, with Olympus’ Coliseum serving as a challenge arena in the first game, and a trip to the Underworld putting Sora, Donald, and Goofy through their paces in the second. The more fleshed-out Olympus in Kingdom Hearts joins a heap of represented Disney worlds, from classics like Frozen’s Arendelle to more modern newcomers like Big Hero 6’s San Fransokyo.
TWILIGHT ZONE
More has also been revealed about how the residents of Twilight Town will factor into the third game’s story. Introduced early in the second game, Hayner’s gang played a big part in setting in motion some of the major plot points that gave the series extra scale. Leading man Sora’s Nobody (sort of an incomplete fragment of a person’s soul), named Roxas, starred in that section of the game, and seems to be an important element of Kingdom Hearts III from the trailers, but much about his role has yet to be made clear. However, we know he can wield a Keyblade, and if the Twilight Town gang is here, expect his part to be a big one.
