BALDUR’S GATE

THESE GAMES REALLY SET THE STANDARD FOR DUNGEONS & DRAGONS COMPUTER ROLEPLAYING GAMES.

The original Baldur’s Gate and its sequel, Shadows Of Amn, have been hugely influential in the two decades that have passed since their original release, paving the way not only for BioWare’s later successes but arguably for Western RPGs as a genre. We got a whiff of what was so great about Baldur’s Gate with the Dark Alliance duology in the PS2 era, but now Beamdog is bringing Baldur’s beginnings to PS4 this year.

Beamdog’s 2016 expansion, Siege Of Dragonspear, will also be making its way across, as will Neverwinter Nights. It’s not just BioWare titles coming to PS4 either; Black Isle’s Planescape: Torment and Icewind Dale are being ported too. Beamdog is known for making Enhanced Editions of all of these games for other systems and is partnering with publisher Skybound Games for this PlayStation 4 lineup.

CRITICAL SUCCESS

Skybound Games is the newest arm of Robert Kirkman’s multimedia company, best known for bringing us all things The Walking Dead. This slew of classic games will celebrate the division’s one-year anniversary.

“These games are iconic [and have] really set the standard for Dungeons & Dragons computer roleplaying games,” Skybound Games CEO Ian Howe says, going on to comment on the partnership itself: “We’re excited to bring Beamdog’s incredible slate to new platforms for both the dedicated fan and those who will soon discover these adventures for the first time. As long-time fans of Baldur’s Gate and Dungeons & Dragons it’s fantastic to partner with Beamdog as the newest member of the Skybound family.”

We’re particularly looking forward to walking down memory lane and getting our mitts on those BioWare classics later this year.
