FINAL FANTASY XV – EPISODE ARDYN

One final hurrah for Eos and its inhabitants

The world of Eos has been spread out from the very beginning, with Final Fantasy XV itself being preceded by both a short anime prologue series and a CG movie, then followed by a season of episodic DLC focused around the party members.

A planned second season of episodes was unfortunately cancelled at the end of last year, with only Episode Ardyn going ahead. As is the nature with multimedia projects, things can get cancelled. The remaining stories will still make their way to fans via a book, The Dawn Of The Future.

This final piece of DLC is slightly bittersweet, then, a feeling reinforced by the fact that Ardyn’s backstory is a tragic one – though this was only revealed in fragments in the game proper.

An already released prologue anime short has made the protagonist’s origins crystal-clear: destined for the throne, he was betrayed by both the Gods and his truly slimy brother Somnus. All he ever really wanted was justice for those he loved and his people but, falsely made out as a traitor, he eventually became one.

Ardyn’s shadowstepping and demon powers provide slick combat – and there’s plenty of that as the DLC takes place during the fall of Insomnia. Ardyn pursues his vengeance on 26 March.
