We mine the library for gold. This month: PS3 remasters on PS4
VALKYRIA CHRONICLES
Jess Kinghorn turn to this RTS classic This one is a sure shot. If the watercolour art direction doesn’t turn your head, the wrinkles it introduces to the tactical RPG formula definitely will. You get to know each of your squadmates. Not only do a number of them have memorable quirks and individualised battle perks, they can form bonds with one another that offer buffs when they fight together. However, that means when you lose a comrade, it’s so much worse.
DEVIL MAY CRY 4 – SPECIAL EDITION
In the end, Oscar Taylor-Kent is satisfied Transferring a character action game to newer hardware means at least one thing: a smoother experience. DMC4’s combo-heavy, and all about playing around with the mechanics, so you absolutely feel a faster, smoother framerate.
The game really shines on PS4, as if it were made especially for the platform. Nero and Dante’s unique combat styles are slicker than ever.
METRO REDUX
Ian Dean goes back underground While there are some great remasters on PS4, including the Nathan Drake Collection, the duology of Metro 2033 and Last Light goes further than sprucing up the textures. Both games get a rebalancing, with gameplay ideas transitioned from the sequel, Last Light, into the series originator 2033. The result is a more coherent experience that feels closer to Metro Exodus than the PS3 originals. Track it down.
DMC4’S COMBO-HEAVY – YOU ABSOLUTELY FEEL A FASTER, SMOOTHER FRAMERATE.
