Far from seeing The Last Of Us
Naughty Dog collaborates with HBO for TV series
Ellie and Joel will return, not only in TLOU Part II but also in a new series from HBO. The US TV giant will co-produce the project with PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures Television. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a number of big names have already signed on to the show, though a cast list has yet to be officially revealed. Get ready to cry all over again, because the series looks set to cover the events of the first game pretty closely.
Craig Mazin, creator of acclaimed series Chernobyl, will be working alongside Neil Druckmann, the game’s creative director, as both writer and executive producer on this adaptation. Naughty Dog president Evan Wells is also an executive producer, alongside former HBO boss Carolyn Strauss.
All of the above big names had lovely things to say about each other. Neil Druckmann told The Hollywood Reporter, “From the first time I sat down to talk with Craig I was equally blown away by his approach to narrative and his love and deep understanding of The Last Of Us. With Chernobyl, Craig and HBO created a tense, harrowing, emotional masterpiece. I couldn’t think of better partners to bring the story of The Last Of Us to life as a television show.”
Craig Mazin himself said of the collaboration, “Neil Druckmann is without question the finest storyteller working in the videogame medium, and The Last Of Us is his magnum opus. Getting a chance to adapt this breathtaking work of art has been a dream of mine for years, and I’m so honoured to do it in partnership with Neil.”
THE SERIES LOOKS SET TO COVER THE EVENTS OF THE FIRST GAME.
