LAST MONTH ON PS PLUS
June marked the ten-year anniversary of PlayStation’s premier subscription service. Over the last decade, subscribers have been offered over 1,000 free games and the service itself has amassed over 40 million users. Talk about celebrating ‘the big one.’
Headlining the celebration was PlayStation icon Lara Croft. The second game in the rebooted origin saga,
Rise Of The Tomb Raider saw her venturing to snowy Siberia in search of a sequestered artefact and the lost city of Kitezh. Paramilitary outfit Trinity was on our trail but as this was a Lara Croft adventure they were the least of our problems – we had many deadly tombs and hostile environments to overcome before the credits rolled. It unearthed a 9/10 from us back in issue 129.
Also available last month was basketball-themed gambling sim – uh, we mean sports game – NBA 2K20.
Featuring a much-lauded story mode and much-derided microtransactions, it was an interesting choice. All that said, it scored an 8/10 from us in issue 168. Closing out last month was Erica.
This cinematic-length FMV game boasted high production values. As the titular protagonist, you were haunted by your father’s murder and had to choose how you reckoned with the past. What really happened and which ending would you uncover? Whatever you did during your investigation, you discovered why we gave it an 8/10 back in issue 167. It’s a no-brainer why it was included as part of the PS Plus anniversary celebration.
Though looking back we’re reminded that 64games were offered to PS Plus subscribers during the service’s first year. Remember when you used to get at least four games every month? Ah, the good old days…
