SET FOR LAUNCH

The new hardware catches the eye, but it’s the games that will define PlayStation 5’s launch. Take a closer look at the console’s day-one lineup…

-

We run through the games we’ll all be able to play on the day PlayStation 5 launches.

PlayStation 4’s life cycle will begin to wind down this winter, almost seven years to the day since the console was released. For us in the UK, 19 November heralds the beginning of a new generation. PlayStation 5 is introducing hardware capable of 4K resolution, ray tracing, innovative 3D soundscapes, and much, much more, so we’re here to decode the headlines and tell you what you’re actually getting in this funky white box.

Let’s start from the beginning: PlayStation 5 will go on general sale in North America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and South Korea from 12 November. Everyone in other countries, the UK included, will be able to get their mitts on the next-gen console from 19 November.

You’ll be able to choose from two models: physical and digital. The digital edition does not have an optical [disc] drive and will cost £359 – an enticing price for many. The physical edition, which does include a disc slot for all your physical media, will set you back £449. Both versions will come packaged with one DualSense controller (additional controllers will cost £59.99 each) and Astro’s Playroom preloaded as standard (flip to p62 for more on this launch title). Bucking the trend set by console generations past, the white colourway is the only one available at launch.

So that’s what it is, but what can you play on it? Reader, make yourself comfortable as we’re running through the highlights.
