SACKBOY: A BIG ADVENTURE
This platformer offers a next-gen spin on the fun
Swapping the creative play of Little Big Planet for his very own propulsive platformer, Sackboy is back for PS5 launch day. Up to four players can play as the woolly wonder and his knitted friends on both next-gen hardware and PS4. What you do may be missing a creative dimension, but every stage still has that trademark tactile, textile look and feel.
Reminding us of our favourite games of make-believe, in A Big Adventure there’s plenty of opportunity for your friends to jump in and join in whacking some monsters. You’ll need a helping hand (or three) to take on the villainous Vex and scupper his nefarious plans for Craftworld.
The PS5 version of the game will make the most of the console’s DualSense controller’s added functionality, enabling you to feel the textures of Sackboy’s world and the sensation as he struggles to pick up heavy objects or fires his grapple and swings about the world.
As you’d expect from a full platform adventure the world is varied and colourful, with our hero riding a runaway train through a mountain pass and exploring ancient temples – Nate Drake would be proud of his craft-cousin. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, our hero can make use of new powers, with one turning the world on its head. In keeping with the series you can upgrade Sackboy with over 60 outfit elements to create your own hero, including sets influenced by Sony’s recent games: Days Gone, Ghost Of Tsushima, and Death Stranding. The woolly Sam Porter Bridges is adorable.
This series has always had a ‘makes you want to reach out and touch it’ quality, so it’s a perfect match for PS5’s innovative touchyfeely controller.
