BORDERLANDS 3

Borderlands 3 returns with new bells and whistles on PS5

-

We enjoyed Borderlands 3 enough to give it 8/10 back in issue 168, but even with its wealth of side-missions, sprawling skill trees, and onebillion guns, it still felt like a certain something was missing: easy character switching. The original PS4 release attempted to bridge that gap through its co-op experience, and yes, Amara kicks butt, but you probably don’t want to start over just to experience that for yourself – so watching a buddy kick butt alongside you as Amara is the next best thing.

Local split-screen co-op will be coming to the next-gen rerelease, however. We’re talking two-player, vertical side-by-side carnage as well as four players together, each in their own corner of prime screen real estate. It’ll certainly make butt-kicking comparisons easier, but that’s not all: if you already have the

PS4 version, you’ll have access to the PS5 version when it launches and all your saves will carry over. There are even plans for crossplay next year, so watch this space.

Friendly free for all

But before then, FL4K fans will be getting their articulated mitts on paid DLC. Upgrading the new Trapper skill tree greatly increases FL4K and their toothy, spindly pals’ defences. It also introduces the Gravity Snare Action skill, which makes nearby enemies uncomfortably light on their feet before smashing them into the ground below. This DLC also offers the Hyperion Loaderbot in three different flavours as pets for FL4K. These bots can either hurl shocking projectiles, charge into danger and bowl over threats, or unload their own heavy artillery. Decisions, decisions…
