DEVIL MAY CRY 5 SPECIAL EDITION

To all the demon boys we’ve loved before: PS, we still love you

-

Do you reckon there’s a limit to the number of times the same game can hype us up? The way we feel about this special edition release suggests not. And while we always get excited to see the sons of Sparda, the proof of the game is in its puddles.

A PS5 launch game, Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition enjoys enhancements utilising the nextgen tech, plus new modes and an additional playable character. This means that Red Grave City will look especially reflective thanks to PS5’s ray tracing capabilities.

Audio matters in this release, too. “The 3D audio does a better job of portraying sounds above and behind you, so you’ll be able to hear an enemy that may be coming at you from off camera,” says producer Matt Walker.

With DMC framerate has always mattered, which is why this PS5 edition will offer multiple play modes. Walker explains: “We felt it was important to give players choice – so they can run the game with ray tracing at 4K, 30fps; 1080p, 60fps; or turn off the ray tracing and turn on the high framerate mode, which displays at up to 120fps.”

Joined by the SSD, which will guarantee instant loading, placing you back in front of the boss that killed you, that’s “going to change gaming as we’ve come to know it,” according to Walker.

LOOKING SSSICK!

Series fans will already be well acquainted with Turbo and Legendary Dark Knight modes. Each adds another layer of challenge to the character action, Turbo mode increasing the speed of the game by 20% and Legendary Dark Knight mode being a more straightforward step up in difficulty that throws even more monsters at you.

If you couldn’t get enough of the original release’s pretty-boy protagonists, you won’t have to gaze longingly into a puddle to see something novel as Vergil is joining the roster of playable characters. Rocking up here as he did for 3 and 4’s Special Editions, you’ll be able to take him (and his theme song) on a tour of

Red Grave City as well as Bloody Palace mode. Vergil fans clinging to current-gen hardware for just a bit longer won’t be left out as they’ll be able to pick up all of his content as add-on DLC for less than a fiver (but obviously this won’t include any of the enhancements made to the base game for PS5).

“TURN ON THE HIGH FRAMERATE MODE, WHICH DISPLAYS AT UP TO 120FPS.”
